“ARTICULATED FLAT MAN”

The “Articulated Flat Man” is a reproduction of a type of business sign used during the mid to late 1800’s. Much like its cousin the “Cigar Store Indian”, it was employed to help increase sales and draw attention to a store in the “Boom Towns” of the “Old West”. He was especially popular with store owners because he could be bent into an infinite number of positions to showcase their products or point the way to their emporium. He can function as a delightful and ever changing art piece for just about any decor from high-rise condo to farm house. The flat sided base provides ample areas to paint anything from the family name to a business logo, or just an address. He can be left outside to acquire an even more ancient and weathered look.

The man is made of 3/4” thick planks of pine and is given a highly distressed painted finish as shown on all sides. The gaudy colors used are purple, yellow, green, blue, orange, black, and flesh tone as was favored during the flamboyant “Victorian” era. All of the hardware is antiqued to compliment the overall patina. The left leg slides into a slot in the base. The right leg, both arms, and body are attached with bolts that can be loosened and tightened to allow the parts to be held in any desired position. Please note that due to being hand made, and hand painted, each individual “Articulated Flat Man” will vary slightly in finish.
